SAP-Based Material Flow Computer for Fast Commercial Processes

Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG, the worldwide operating distributor of fasteners and assembly materials, ships 18,000 packages a day.

With the introduction of SAP modules SD and WM in the order processing dispatch handling, material flow processes have been optimized. In order to handle the large volume in the warehouse, an SAP-based warehouse management system was introduced. The solution permanently communicates as a material flow computer with the ERP system SAP R/3, controls the packaging conveyance technology, executes the label printing and the distribution to the packaging stations.

The optimization of the process shortened the lead time from the order to the shipment to less than five hours. The new structures reduced losses and complaints to a minimum.
