Warehouse Management and Block Inventory Control on the SAP Platform

voestalpine Group is a leading manufacturer of steel products. The Austrian company is the world market leader in switch technology and tool steel as well as Europe's number one in producing high-quality steel tape, tracks, special pipes and profiles as well as refined quality wire.
In Krems, voestalpine annually produces more than 300,000 tons of hollow sections, special pipes and profiles. Material and products are piled up to a breath-taking height in block warehouses. 37,000 square meters of space have to be utilized as effectively as possible, since shelves for such loads would be too expensive.

SAP LES rings Logistics in Motion

The company used the introduction of SAP as an ERP system in order to synchronize the capabilities of the system to its own logistics needs.  SALT Solutions, the intra-logistics specialist was established as partner.
Together with the voestalpine group-IT GmbH, a functional specification was designed and a solution was developed: SAP LES manages the inventory of all storage locations and generates the operation pool  for the truck fleet. SALT Solutions linked the subordinated control systems directly to SAP by a SAP-based extension.
